collage
My collage practice moves between mixed media on canvas and layered textile compositions—two distinct yet interconnected approaches that allow me to explore landscape, memory, and materiality.
In my mixed media collages, I build imaginary land- and seascapes through layers of acrylic paint, torn and cut paper, and photographic fragments. The paint adds texture and movement, while the paper—often text or image-based—acts as both mark and meaning, shaping the composition like a brush would. By layering these elements, I explore the subtle relationships between material and memory, surface and depth, the real and the imagined.
My textile collages evolve from a different but equally tactile process. I embed strips of printed paper—often from news or magazines—between layers of transparent organza and quilt batting. These layers are then stitched together row by row, using various colored threads. The result is a quilted surface stretched over canvas that captures an abstract sense of landscape, filtered through fabric, text, and time. The use of fonts adds rhythm and visual texture, creating a painterly effect from everyday materials.
Across both practices, my work is rooted in transformation—of materials, of memory, and of place. Each piece invites the viewer to move beyond the surface, to trace the layered narratives held within.
